Boise, Idaho (August 5, 2008)-The Idaho Travel Council granted more than $3.3 million dollars in tourism marketing money through the Idaho Regional Travel and Convention Grant Program at their annual July meeting held in Coeur d’Alene last week.

Eligible award recipients include non-profit local and regional tourism development organizations such as chambers of commerce and convention and visitors’ bureaus. Other organizations awarded this year include the Idaho Ski Area Association, Idaho Outfitters and Guides Association and the Downtown Boise Association.

“We are pleased to be able to put so much money back into the community to help with local marketing efforts. Every marketing dollar helps to spread the word about what a great value an Idaho vacation is,” said Karen Ballard, Administrator for the Division of Tourism Development.

Several grant recipients expressed their thanks to the council as well.

As you know, this ITC grant money is very important to Idaho communities who are trying to work hard to bring more visitors and tourism revenue to our state. I know your grant funding decisions are always tough, and we appreciate the diligence with which you analyze the various requests for their potential ROI for Idaho tourism. Building Idaho’s economy by increasing visitor expenditures throughout the state is the goal of the Idaho Travel Council and the Tourism Development Division. The division's activities are funded by a two percent lodging tax, paid by travelers and collected by the state's hotel, motel and private campground owners. Forty-five percent of the funds are used for statewide programs targeted to international and domestic consumers, tour operators, travel agents, travel journalists, and film industry marketing. Another forty-five percent is distributed back in the grant program. The remaining ten percent is used for administration of the division.

Bed tax collections showed growth every month for fiscal year 2008 over the previous year. Total year-to-date growth was 6.9% while revenues from the tax exceeded $7 million for the first time. Source Link
